Influence changes everything.
The difference between good leadership and great leadership is influence. That’s what gets your ideas heard, your team energised, and your projects across the line.
Most development programmes go heavy on theory and ignore the one thing that actually makes a difference – behaviour.
At Chartwell Learning, we help people change how they show up when it matters most. Our programmes turn insight into everyday action, so teams and leaders are more confident, authentic and effective, starting with what’s right in front of them.
You won’t get surface-level learning – you’ll build skills and habits that stick for a lifetime.

What is influence, and why should you care?
Influence is that moment when something clicks – when people don’t just hear you, they believe you.
It’s the spark that gets things moving when you’re facing resistance. It’s the trust that means your ideas spread without you having to push. And it’s the energy that leaves everyone in the room feeling more capable, more confident, and more connected than they did an hour ago.

What you’ll get from us
Influence that lasts
Our programmes focus on habits you’ll actually use, not flavour-of-the-month techniques that fade by Friday. You’ll walk away with skills that become second nature. And because we focus on real behaviour change, you’ll feel an immediate difference in how people respond to you.
Practical skills, not theory
No 200-slide PowerPoint marathons. No abstract frameworks that sound clever in the room but go nowhere when you’re back at your desk. Just skills you can test tomorrow – in that stakeholder meeting, in your next team briefing, in the challenging conversation you’ve been putting off. And because they’re rooted in real psychology and proven through decades of practice, you can trust they’ll still be serving you years into your career.
Trusted expertise, proven impact
We’ve been doing this for 40 years. We’ve worked with thousands of alumni who’ve gone on to lead teams, transform cultures, and navigate challenges that would have stopped them cold before. We’re trusted by global brands who come back again and again, not because we’re good at selling, but because the results speak for themselves.
Influence isn’t a trend we’re chasing – it’s the work we were built for. And that means when you work with us, you’re getting depth, not superficial learning. Experience, not experimentation. A partner who’s seen every scenario you’re facing and knows exactly what works.

How can we help you?
People Team plate-spinner
You’re responsible for developing your people, closing capability gaps, and delivering results through others. You’re thinking big picture – about your team’s challenges, the shifts you need to see, and the partner who can help you get there without adding to your already-impossible workload.
You need programmes that work, not tick-box exercises that are forgotten by Monday. And you need a partner who understands your world – the budget pressures, the sceptical stakeholders, the need to prove impact.
We get it. And we’ll work alongside you to build a learner experience that fits your culture, addresses your specific challenges, and delivers change you can actually see.
Let's talk
Open enrolment – it’s all about you.
Maybe you’ve just stepped into a new role – leading a team for the first time, or navigating unfamiliar territory where the stakes feel higher. Or perhaps you’ve been in your role for a while and know exactly what’s holding you back.
Maybe it’s getting heard in meetings where louder voices dominate. Maybe it’s influencing upward when you don’t have the authority. Or maybe it’s establishing credibility quickly with new stakeholders.
Whatever it is, you’re tired of feeling stuck and want some practical techniques that’ll make a difference now.
Our programmes give you exactly that – skills you can use immediately, confidence that comes from practice, and the clarity to see which behaviours are working and which are holding you back. You’ll leave with a plan, not just good intentions.

Questions? We’ve got answers.
Influence or manipulation – what's the difference?
Manipulation is all about hiding what you really want. It’s when you try to steer people into doing something they might not choose if they knew the full story. Influence is the opposite. It’s open, honest, and upfront. It builds trust because people know exactly where you stand.
When you influence well, you get things done and strengthen your relationships along the way. You hit your goals – the end-of-year report, the team restructure, the new client onboarding – without burning bridges or leaving people feeling used.
But here’s the thing: if you start using influence to manipulate others, trust disappears fast. You might get away with it once, but keep doing it and your reputation will catch up with you. Real influence isn’t about controlling people – it’s about earning their trust so they want to move with you.
So... isn't influence just about getting my own way?
It might look that way from the outside, but true influence isn’t about winning or forcing people to agree with you. Because if you win, someone else usually loses – and that’s competition, not influence.
Real influence means everyone walks away feeling they’ve been heard and can live with the outcome. You might not be swapping Christmas cards, but you can still share a slice of cake in the canteen and feel good about how things turned out.
Positive influence isn’t a zero-sum game.
Big boss energy = instant influence? Not so fast.
If only it were that simple. Having a title or authority doesn’t automatically make you influential. Sure, you can tell people what to do – that’s compliance – but it’s not the same as real commitment.
Influence is what turns ‘I have to’ into ‘I want to’. It’s what gets people genuinely on board, not just ticking boxes.
Your role and expertise definitely help, but if you stomp around in your big boss pants, you’ll crush trust faster than you can say ‘team meeting’. Influence gets people walking with you, not just behind you.
I just share the data – that should be enough, right?
Data’s a great start! Facts and figures can be super persuasive, especially when you know your stuff. But here’s the catch – people don’t always make decisions based purely on logic.
If emotions are running high, or someone’s just as much (or more) of an expert than you are, data alone might not land.
Real influence is about knowing when to lean on facts and when to use other skills – clarity, curiosity, storytelling. The magic happens when you can adapt your approach to both get results and strengthen relationships along the way.
Who do you actually work with?
Pretty much everyone – from board members and senior leaders to rising stars and early-career talent.
With over 20,000 learners (and counting), it’s hard to think of a role, level, function, or sector we haven’t worked with.
This year alone, we’ve helped people strengthen their influence skills in organisations across retail, banking, pharma, tech, and the voluntary sector – from CEOs and Global Heads to Team Leaders and Project Managers.
What sort of group works best?
You’re probably wondering whether it’s better to work with people horizontally or vertically – and the honest answer is… it depends.
Do you want to help a dispersed team gel and build habits that actually stick? Are you trying to create a leadership approach that drives the whole organisation? Or are you looking to shift the culture in a key function?
When you bring a group of people together, strip away the hierarchy, create a safe learning space, and give them the chance to put new behaviours into practice, the potential goes far beyond just developing influence skills. You can create visible change that lasts.
How do I know if it works?
You want to see real impact – and so do we.
We’re not going to sugar coat it though. This stuff isn’t easy, and that’s why we work with you to understand the visible change you want to see and find out what you already measure.
Then we build an impact and evaluation strategy together.
